India is middle eastern country. Pakistan, Nepal,China and Bangladesh boarder India, while the south of India is surrounded by the Indian Ocean. The capital of India is New Delhi. The women in India wear saris, a long wrapdress made out of fine cotten and silk. Sometimes the saris are decorated with pure gold and if the family is poor they will burn the sari to obtain the gold so they can have enough money to feed the family.Because the familys are poor they sometimes share a flat with many people from their family, Grandparents, Parents, Aunts, Uncles and children. India its self is also very crouded. The streets and roads can be very congested and busy. This does not reflect on all of India, it has amazing jungles andwetlands teaming with wild life like elephants, snakes, tigers and peacocks. India has amazing buildings and architecture like the Taj Mhal, which was built by a very rich man as a shrine and temple for his wife when she died. It also has beautiful shrines to worship their many gods for their many different cultures and beliefs some of them are Budhism, Hinduism and the Sikhs.

Well done, all of you.

I am sorry that a few people did not manage to see their messages safely onto the www, but do not give up.

India has been in the news today. Here is a page that could be a good reference base for us.

This anonymous contributioncame from someone in 8V2. It was lost in cyberspace but has now been found, thanks to the Discover staff:

e cows are holy. They have many different religions but I think the main
one is Hinduism. I think Hinduism is a very peaceful religion and they
pray alot. I have been to a Hindu's house and they didn't celebrate
Christmas and it was meant to be badluck to wear shoes int the
kitchen.
India used to be ruled by the British and Gandi was a very
famous Indian who believed in peaceful protesting. India has a very
famous cricket team. They also like hot curries! I went to an Indian
restaurant and they had pastry/bread things called popadoms.

In India
the men sometimes where turbines(?) on their head. The women wear
sari's. These are like a very long piece of clothe. I have one at home.
Underneath the sari you wear a little top. Then you wrap the sari around
it. The women also wear studs in their nose (I can't remember why). They
wear dots on their heads called bindis. You can get the stick on
variety, or the paint sort. My friend (who was Indian) had a paint bindi
kit that had about 10 different colours.

One of my best friends in
primary school was Indian, so I learnt alot from her and we also did a
unit of work on India in grade 3. | |172.20.16.5| |reg| |

India is a country where customs and traditions are very different to our own.
Body piercing is considered normal.
Marriages are arranged so a girl may be end up married to a man many times her age.
The climate is mostly hot and dry.

India is in Asia. In ancient India, slaves built the same style of building as the Taj Mahal. The majority of people now-a-days are very poor, but there are at least 4% who are incredibly rich! The traditional foods are rice, spices, curries and puppadams. They wear saris, and diamiontes and bindis.
In ancient India, the cow was a sacred animal, and nobody was allowed to eat them. If a cow was in the middle of the street, then the carts had to wait till it moved off, even if it was there all day!! They had THOUSANDS OF GODS!!! The princes, rajahs and sultans wore turbans and had many slaves.

by reading this page i have remembered about the tarh mahal and that it is very dry and there is lack of good clena water. Also that there is muslems and they use donkey as one way one of transport. India isn't really clean and most of the people live in very small houses with many people. The women in India wear sufaris

Well, India is a country in Asia above the Indian Ocean.
It is over populated and reasonably dirty.
Indian food is spicy and I think they eat lots of curries and rice. People wear "saries" and bindies. Different bindies mean different things. There are different coloured bindies for when you are married and when you are not. India has lots of beautiful materials and gorgeous jewellery. India has lots of people of different religions. In India young girls are married off at a young age to men by their fathers Imagine being married to someone as old a a granddad!

I know that the capital is New Delhi.
There are elephants, tigers and rhinos.
Their marriges are arranged for them.
The women and girls wear bindis on their forheads.
They follow Hinduism, Buddism and Muslim.
The Tahj Mahal (don't know how to spell it) is in India.

Introducing Mr T

Mr T found this forum and put down this contribution before we started. Here is what he had to say, in a slightly edited form.

Indians can't eat beef. I pity the Indians.
I have heard of illegal bookies, the majority of clothing is non existent or ratty, India's history was changed by the British and the Ganges is the source of 98% of all world diseases and pollution. I have seen them in the news, fighting with another poor country, Pakistan, about nuclear weapons. Anyone see the irony? If they stopped developing nuclear weapons, maybe they would have some money to help the poor. Again, I pity the Indians.

  • 'I am an Angel': I've never really studied India in any subjects but I would really like to learn about their culture and daily life and see how different it is to ours here in Australia. Also I would like to know what age they are when they get married and what religion is the most popular.

  • 'teshi': I think India is a beautiful place. It is in Asia and the clothes the women wear are gorgeous. But I'm not to keen on the food - I'll just stick with australian.

  • 'sweetpea' : I don't know very much about India, but I do know it is a country of Asia which is jutting out into the Indian Ocean. In India they have a smaller type of elephant called the Indian Elephant. The food of India has lots of noodles/rice and curries. In India there are lots of gorgeous jewelery and materials that can be worn including bindiis and saris. I think India would be a really nice place to visit except I wouldn't like to live there. It sounds like if you're a girl you'd be married off by your father someone who was way too old and you didn't even know. Yuk!! I also wouldn't like it because of all those people, over a THOUSAND million!!

  • 'hankydurst': I don't really know much about India. But I think it is a really interesting place. The climate is hot and very dry, the women wear things called sahri's and wear their hair in long braids down their backs. The material that is used to make most of their clothes is silk with gold patters embroidered over the top. They have a type of elephant named the 'Indian Elephant' and the have wild animals like the tiger.
The women also have red dots on their faces and bindis in the middle of their forehead.

  • Sunny Shine Bright : I don't know too much about India.
    India is in Asia.
They have dirty water and dirty clothes.

    I am Sunny Shine Bright.

  • 'HF': I know that India is in Asia and that they eat spicy food like curry. They also wear saris made out of beautiful, colourful material. They used to (and still might) ride elephants and they had pet tigers. they wear bindi's when they get married and most girls don't get to choose their husbands.

  • Fackle Gibbons : India is situated in Asia. India is a very humid place. The poor people of India have to beg for their food and money, i think this is very sad, we are very well off compared to them.

They have the most beautifully made clothes, jewellery and footwear. Plus the most rich and hot tasting food!! YUMMO
    Fackle Gibbons

  • teshi: In India, most people are poor and alot of children wouldn't be able to go to school. Even though alot of people here say, "Oh, I reckon school's dumb and I wish I didn't go" it would be really awful not to go to school and make new friends.

  • 'Dany Smith': India is situated in Asia it is very hot and so is the food. They have beautiful clothing and jewellery. But many people are poor which is very sad compared to the people in India we are very well off. They do not even have clean water.
