I know that india is the second most poputated nation in the world, only China is more populated. Saris are there tridtional cloths for wemon. Most wemon don't wear saris until they are married, but that doesn't nessessarly mean they are married. They eat curries. IP: Logged |

I know that india is the second most populated country, the clothes the wemon wear are absolutely georgess, the styles of india's clothes fashion for women are changing variously. Mathematics shows high knowlage of the human mind in india. It is to be belived that india invented the number system.

After reading what everone else has written I realised that as I was reading I already knew a lot of thing about India, I just had to be reminded! (like forgetting that the Tajh Mahal is in India)! Good luck to everyone doing this unit!IP: Logged |

The main thing i have learnt about India is that they have little water. There are so many people and just not enough money.Their transport is kind of weird and very different to ours.Their clothing is very different compared to todays clothing styles also.IP: Logged |

well excuse me. im indian. india is not poor . and they do not have A LOT of violence. that is very raisis. i think india is rather nice because ive been the 5 times . thats all quote: From the Teacher who started this: Welcome to this learning site, I Care. What a lovely name you have! You are fortunate to have been to India five times. Squeaky has not had the chance to go there yet, but she is making observations based on what she has read about India. You have said her comments are racist and inaccurate. Perhaps they are not the whole truth but please do not be rude on this discussion board. The purpose of our discussion is to learn from each other and that won't be easy if people do not respect each other. If you know India you know that there are many thousands of poor people there. There are plenty of richer people too and I agree with you that much of the countryside and the monuments are really beautiful. Finally, about violence. There have been reports all around the world of the bombing of Parliament House in Delhi, mass killings in Gujerat, not to mention the constant threat of violence along the Kashmiri border. Yes, that needs to be seen in proportion, but try to be kinder in pointing out people's biases.

I would just like to say that whoever said that India has a lot of violence, dirty water, dirty clothes, no plumbing, girls don't get to choose their husbands and all that other junk are extremely wrong. Yes, there is a lot of poverty and it's not the cleanest place in the world but there is a lot going on to help poor people. They DO NOT have a lot of violence and the only reason their parents choose their husbands is that they respect their parents a lot and they choose suitable husbands for them and they learn to love them and NOT ALL THEIR PARENTS CHOOSE THEM FOR THEM AND WHAT'S THE POINT IN CHOOSING YOUR OWN HUSBAND MOST PPL OVER HERE GET DIVORCED ANYWAY. They are very modern now and they do so have modern clothes and fashion and they don't ride donkeys and Indian girls are extremely beautiful why do you think they won Miss World for about five years and they are extremely smart. AND IT IS ILLEGAL TO HAVE CHILD MARRIAGES IN INDIA NOW SO THE BOOK YOU ARE READING IS VERY OLD. THEY HAVE PLUMBING AND THEY'RE WATER IS PERFECTLY CLEAN AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT INDIA THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT. Dear Wateva, You are welcome on the Forum. I am not sure why you appear to be so angry. It is great that you are speaking so confidently but not everyone is fortunate enough to be as well informed as you claim to be. This Discussion Thread of the Forum is for people to share their tentative understandings about India so that we can together sort out what is true, partially true or totally a fallacy. This will not be achieved if certain contributors are so intolerant of others' imperfect understandings that people are afraid to share. Your last sentence goes totally against the guidelines that I have set up for this forum. I hope that if you choose to contribute again you will do so in a more gracious way. cecilia [This message has been edited by cecilia (edited 24 July 2002).] IP: Logged |

India seems like a really interesting country. I like the style of their food, cultures, and the way they live. I have Indian friends and im familliar with the peoples way of life. It has Muslim population which is the same as Middle Easterm countries and many other interesting sites and history on India. I particularly love the Taj Mahal and its amazing architecture. It really shows the Mosque look! I think India is a great place for a holiday. I hope to travel there one day.IP: Logged |

Dear Cecilia, I saw this article on the news the other night that in India they are making the cow even more sacred then it already is, they are not allowing any cows to be killed at all now. Does anyone know how the cow came to be so sacred? I also know that Indian women and sometimes men hardly ever cut their hair and grow it really long. Angel BabyIP: Logged |

Thank you for your question, angelbaby.Have a read of this page to learn about the story of Lord Krishna and the cow, which will explain how the Hindus came to regard the cow as sacred better than I could in my own words. IP: Logged |

I don't really know a lot about India but my Pa once went to India and he brought back all these silver bracelets for me and my sister. I don't like their food much because I don't like curry very much. Can anyone tell me why they have those red dots on their foreheads? Is it for religous purposes?

Hello Everyone, I don't know very much about India, although I have heard of a very famous Indian man called Gandhi. Gandhi created passive resistance; in my opinion Gandhi was a wonderful man. Sadly Gandhi was assonated although his brilliant work in promoting peace has never been forgotten. Bye….

Dear Cecilia, I know that in India both the men and women grow their hair really long. usually the men wear a turban over their hair. Does any body know why they do this? is it part of their religion? Is it true that in in India they only use their right hand to eat and that it is bad manners to pick anything up or eat anything with their left hand? I also heard that for a punishment in India they used to cut off a person's right hand so that they would be shamed by the public because they had to use their left hand for everything. In India there are alot of different species of animals that are found nowhere else in the world. This includes the Indian elephant. What other sorts of animals do they have in India? I know that India has rainforests as well as deserts. It must be a very interesting and diverse country, I'd love to visit it one day. from Angel Baby

Our family used to now a group of Indian people living next, my little sister was friends with the younger daughter in their family. Then one day when we all sat down to watch the news we discovered that they had been in a carcrash with a truck! The mother and older brother (no names to be menshioned)were killed the father wasn't in the car at the time and my little sisters friend was in a coma being rushed to hospital with severe head and leg injuries. It has taken her quite some time to recover but she will never be the same.IP: Logged |
